Luck-Based Decision Maker

Let Fate Decide: When You Can’t Make Up Your Mind, Let Luck Choose for You 🎲
The Story Behind a Simple Yet Powerful Decision-Making Tool
Have you ever found yourself stuck between two choices, endlessly weighing pros and cons, unable to make a decision? You’re not alone. Every day, we face countless decisions — some trivial, some life-changing — and sometimes, our minds just freeze.
That’s why I built Let Fate Decide — a luck-based decision maker that takes the burden off your shoulders and lets chance guide your path.

The Problem: Decision Paralysis
In our modern world, we’re blessed with options. Want to order food? You have 50 restaurants to choose from. Career opportunity? Multiple paths ahead. Even simple choices like “Should I go to the gym today?” can feel overwhelming.
Psychologists call this “decision fatigue” — the deteriorating quality of decisions made after a long session of decision-making. When faced with too many choices, our brains simply give up.
Sometimes, what we need isn’t more analysis. We need to just pick one and move forward.
The Solution: Let Luck Decide
Let Fate Decide is a web application I built using Next.js that gamifies decision-making. Here’s how it works:
The 3-Round Battle System
- Enter Your Two Options — Type in the two choices you’re struggling with
- Watch the Battle — Each option receives random points (0–10) across 3 rounds
- See the Winner — The option with the highest total score is your decision
It’s simple, it’s fun, and surprisingly effective.
Why This Approach Works
1. Removes Analysis Paralysis
When you can’t decide logically, randomness breaks the deadlock. The algorithm doesn’t overthink — and neither should you.
2. Reveals Hidden Preferences
Here’s something interesting: When you see the result, how do you feel about it? If you’re disappointed, that reaction tells you what you actually wanted. If you’re relieved, you’ve found your answer.
This psychological trick, known as the “coin flip method”, has been used for decades by therapists and coaches.
3. Takes Away the Burden of Regret
When luck decides, you can’t blame yourself. “The universe chose this path for me” feels better than “I made the wrong choice.”
Real-World Use Cases
Users have shared how they’ve used Let Fate Decide for:
- Career Decisions: “Accept the job offer” vs “Stay at current company”
- Relationship Choices: “Ask them out” vs “Wait a bit longer”
- Daily Dilemmas: “Order pizza” vs “Cook at home”
- Travel Plans: “Beach vacation” vs “Mountain trip”
- Fitness Goals: “Gym today” vs “Rest day”
- Creative Projects: Choosing between two design concepts
One user told me: “I was stuck between two job offers for weeks. I used your app, and even though option B won, I realized I felt disappointed — which told me I actually wanted option A. Best decision tool ever!”
The Technology Behind It

The Philosophy: Embracing Randomness
There’s a quote I love from author Nassim Nicholas Taleb:
“The only way to make a decision when you cannot decide is to decide randomly.”
We often overthink because we want to make the “perfect” choice. But here’s the truth: Most decisions aren’t as critical as we think. Whether you choose option A or B, you’ll adapt and make it work.
Let Fate Decide reminds us that sometimes, it’s okay to let go of control. Life is unpredictable anyway — why not embrace it?
What’s Next?
I’m continuously improving the app based on user feedback. Here’s what’s coming:

Final Thoughts
Building Let Fate Decide taught me something valuable: Sometimes the best decision-making tool isn’t a complex algorithm or a detailed pros-and-cons list. Sometimes, it’s just a dice roll.
Life is full of uncertainty. We can’t predict every outcome. But we can choose to move forward — even if that choice is made by luck.
So go ahead, give it a try. Let fate decide, and see where it takes you.
